Walk south on Lake Street on a Saturday in early August and the block between Marina Park and Peter Kirk Park reads differently than it did a year ago. The Feast sign is gone at 115 Park Lane. The Island Soul space at the north end of the retail core has a new awning. A new Italian dining room sits inside the historic waterfront block. If you live in Kirkland and you have been eating in the same three places since 2023, the downtown map has quietly redrawn itself while you were not looking.
This is a post for the resident who wants to know what actually changed, in which physical space, and how to sequence the new lineup against the events already on your August calendar. The short version: the turnover is concentrated. Almost every new operator worth knowing is inside a five-minute walk of the ferry dock, which changes how you plan a Sunday.
The Park Lane swap that reset the corridor
The most talked-about change is at 115 Park Lane. Von's 1000Spirits opened its third location on June 10, 2026, continuing the Seattle hospitality brand's expansion in Washington. The Kirkland space took over the former home of Feast, occupies roughly 3,300 square feet, and sits within walking distance of the waterfront and downtown Kirkland's central retail and dining area. If you have been to the downtown Seattle Von's across from the Seattle Art Museum, you already know the menu: sourdough pizzas, pastas, Von's Signature Hamburgs, and a full spirits program. The $7.99 Scratch Martini transfers to Kirkland as well.
The other Park Lane-adjacent swap happened in January. Tanaka Ramen & Izakaya opened in the former Island Soul (Arleana's) space in late January 2026, serving traditional Japanese ramen, rice bowls, izakaya-style small plates, and desserts in a modern, casual environment. This is the company's first restaurant in Washington, and the menu includes ramen bowls, Tokyo-style curry bowls, rice bowls, and izakaya dishes such as pork gyoza, soft shell crab buns, karaage chicken, takoyaki, fried oysters, and rock shrimp ebi-mayo.

Two of those four turnovers are within a block of each other. The other two are within a five-minute walk. That density is the story.
The waterfront half of the walk
South of Park Lane, the waterfront gained an Italian anchor. Rimini Restaurant is owned by the Nardone family, multi-time nationally acclaimed restaurateurs, and is located in downtown Kirkland's historic waterfront. The menu features classic Italian dishes alongside modern twists on traditional favorites, and the restaurant has a full bar and a wine list of Italian wines.
The other waterfront story is The Slip, which matters more to longtime residents than any of the new arrivals. The dock-side space had closed in September 2025 when the previous owner stepped back for health reasons, and it has reopened this spring under new ownership. If you had written the location off, it is worth another look this month.
Putting Von's, Tanaka, Rimini, and The Slip together produces something Kirkland has not really had before: four dinner options with different price points and different cuisines, all inside a walk that takes less time than parking a car in the summer.
What's coming that residents should track
Two announcements are worth flagging even though the doors are not open yet.
The first is Farine Bakery & Cafe, which is coming to a site near Grasslawn Park. Construction is expected to begin in late 2026, and the announcement follows the team's March 2026 debut in Woodinville. The group also operates locations in Redmond and Bellevue, the name "Farine" means "flour" and reflects the focus on house-made offerings, and the menu highlights French and Belgian influences with an emphasis on breads and pastries made in-house. Breakfast includes egg plates, croissant sandwiches, shakshuka, and French toast; tartines and baguette sandwiches carry smoked salmon, prosciutto, and roast chicken; and Belgian-style waffles, frites, croissants, cruffins, éclairs, and tarts round out the offerings.
"Going to Grasslawn Park for kids' soccer games, hiking or walking through the many trails or commuting, we look forward to welcoming you to Farine Kirkland."
If you live in Grasslawn or North Rose Hill, that quote is the tell. This is not a downtown play. It is a neighborhood play, sited next to a park that already anchors weekend youth sports.
The second announcement is at Totem Lake. Ethan Stowell announced two new Seattle-area restaurants slated to open this summer: Cut Club, a steakhouse in downtown Seattle's Hotel Max, and Lime Social, a Mexican restaurant in Kirkland's Village at Totem Lake, following his departure from Ethan Stowell Restaurants last year. For residents in Kingsgate and Juanita, Lime Social is the more relevant of the two.
Pairing the new lineup with August
The reason the compressed downtown geography matters right now is that August is when Kirkland's calendar clusters, and the new restaurants sit inside the calendar's footprint.
- Sunday, August 9, 10 AM to 4 PM. The Kirkland Waterfront Car Show, organized by the Kirkland Downtown Association, features over 300 cars on display along the streets of Downtown Kirkland, plus 30-plus vendors, from 10 AM to 4 PM. The show closes the streets that Von's, Rimini, and The Slip sit on. Reservations for dinner that night are the move. Walk-ins will be tight.
- Saturday, August 8 and Saturday, August 15, 5 PM onward. Kirkland Community Movie Night at Heritage Park. Heritage Park is a short drive from downtown. If you are pairing a movie night with dinner, Tanaka is the fastest turn.
- Thursday, August 20, 4 to 8 PM. The Kirkland Urban Sunset Markets and Concert Nights Series closes the season with West Coast Feed, blending upbeat rock, R&B, soul, and funk. Kirkland Urban is a ten-minute walk from Park Lane. A pre-concert dinner at Von's followed by the walk over is a workable Thursday.
- Wednesdays through late September. The Kirkland Wednesday Market features local farmers, artists, artisans, and food producers, and attracts a crowd of around 700 to 900 people. Rimini and Von's both pick up spillover foot traffic on market days.
- Saturday, September 5, 12 PM onward. Pride Across the Bridge at Marina Park Public Beach, which sits at the foot of the same block as the new restaurant cluster.
The practical planning point: if you are hosting out-of-town family in August, you no longer need to drive them to Bellevue for a dinner-and-event pairing. The pairing is inside a single walk.
What this means if you own here
Restaurant turnover is not usually a headline for homeowners. It is here because the concentration is unusual. Downtown Kirkland has had a slow drift of one-off openings for years. What happened in the first eight months of 2026 is different in kind. Four operators moved into anchor spaces on the same corridor, one national announcement pointed at Totem Lake, and a fifth site is being planned next to Grasslawn Park. That is not a coincidence of leases. It is operators reading the same trend line about foot traffic, event density, and the walkability of the downtown core, and betting on it inside a twelve-month window.
For a resident, the takeaway is simpler. The block that felt sleepy in 2024 is now the most concentrated dinner-and-event stretch on the Eastside east of Bellevue Way. Plan around it. Book Von's or Rimini for Car Show Sunday before the week is out. Save Tanaka for a movie-night Saturday. Watch for Farine's construction fencing near Grasslawn Park this fall.
